For a truck driver, the road to becoming an entrepreneur–owning your own vehicle – is a long, arduous one fraught with challenges. The average truck driver is not even on the periphery of India’s financial system as he lacks a sound credit history. In other words, the formal banking sector does not cater to his needs.
And yet, drivers provide the wheels on which India turns.
An integral and irreplaceable part of India’s economy, drivers have little option than to turn to the unorganized financial sector – a cash-led system dominated by moneylenders providing finance at prohibitive rates of interest – pushing the average customer further into debt.

NIKHIL SWADI

At WitFin, Nikhil is responsible for establishing the company's long-term strategy, securing the necessary resources (human and financial), as well as setting company culture and values, and maintaining team morale.
Nikhil has over fifteen years of financial services experience, a decade of which was on Wall Street. He worked for over ten years at JP Morgan, New York in turn as a senior research analyst, investment banker and a commercial banker specializing in origination and debt structuring. His experience cuts across the length and breadth of the sector as he has worked in both public and private M&A as well as been responsible for strategic, lending and capital markets transactions in both the US and Europe.
But it was his return to his hometown Mumbai and gaining operational experience at Ganesha Carriers – the family business – that sparked an interest in getting better acquainted with the heart of the business, the truck driver.
As a third-generation entrepreneur, he felt that understanding the driver’s financial and professional environment opened up avenues for sustainable growth. To that end, WitFin was born in 2011 with the mission of providing livelihood financing to truck drivers, thereby combining Nikhil’s experience in financial services with his operational experience at Ganesha Carriers.
Nikhil is an alumnus of the University of Rochester with a degree in marketing and finance from Simon Business School.
PRATAP DIGHE
Director
Pratap has more than thirty years of rich experience in the transportation sector; over 20+ having been with Ganesha Carriers.
At his former company, he was chiefly responsible for managing the daily supply chain for 8000+ tonnes of cement in the four states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Punjab, and ably led a team of over 400 people.
He now uses his strong managerial skills and extensive industry knowledge at WitFin to stimulate, manage and enhance relationships with all business partners including those with transport operators, truck owners, distributors and suppliers. He is also responsible for both employee engagement and retention. In addition to his responsibilities at WitFin, Pratap leads the operations at Auto Hirers, one of Mumbai’s premium luxury car rental service – that partners with multinational companies and others – with an operating fleet of over 100 vehicles. Auto Hirers is promoted and owned by Dilip Swadi.
Pratap graduated from Manipal University with an MBA in Management.
